thanks, us government
the us gov’t is looking into a new surveillance bill that would allow unfettered access to the content of any traffic on the interbutts, including personal email, search results, etc. thought the warrantless wiretaps were bad? this is much worse.
in other news, we’re still having trouble with the apartment management at our complex. the property manager is still trying to avoid giving me their insurance information after the whole flood thing last month wrecked a bunch of stuff. our insurance company, state farm, has been great and they’re taking good care of us. i called them yesterday to let them know that the property manager was being a dumb whore, and the agent said he’d call her himself and if that didn’t work out, they’d send a liability letter to them to force them into giving the information out.
i was going to call their water extraction people to clean the carpets tomorrow, but i think i’ll just take care of it myself and see how that works out. if it still smells like a shoe (and it does right now) then i’ll have them come out and try to clean it themselves.
err..
so..there’s not been much going on in my world lately. cadie and i had great trip to north carolina. it was nice to see my dad and stepmom and spend some time with them, without my sister being there as well. i found out, while i was there, that i like whiskey (and whisky, of the scottish variety). i’ve bought a couple bottles. i think i’ll continue purchasing the stuff until i’ve got a good collection of different types of booze.
you may have read that we had a bit of a flood in our apartment while we were gone. i can’t begin to describe how much fun we’ve had with that since it happened. the apartment still(!) smells like an old shoe. the apartment complex management sucks the dog, and their maintenance staff does as well. cadie’s laptop, our kitchen table, some books and other things were wrecked by the water pouring out of the failed sprinkler head. we’re waiting on the office staff to get us their insurance information so i can submit the claim to state farm and we can get on with our lives.
cadie and i are considering buying our first house out in NC, which is funny because we both love NM and the west so much. change is good, though, and the close proximity to all the stuff on the east coast (dc, nyc, etc) as well as the distance from all the stuff out here is a good combination. not to mention housing costs in NC are much better than in albuquerque.
we’re also looking at visiting boulder, co again in march. it should be fun.
also, as an aside- i’m not longer available through the facebook. fuck social networking.
