first day of work

it was mostly uneventful. i spent the majority of my day in an HR training room with 30 other people. i was the sole new hire for the gaming commission. everyone else was being hired for housekeeping, security or food/beverage stuff. i learned a bit about the pueblo and got a tour of the hotel and casino, including the “super-suite” which is 1500sq ft and ~$2000 a night.

there are some really neat design elements that were utilized in the construction of the building– my favorite of which is a giant series of windows that frames the sandia mountains like a huge pictureframe. before the hotel was constructed, you could walk in the front door and see straight out the back. the view from Bien Shur (fine dining restaurant on the top floor) is amazing. on one side of the building, there’s a great view of albuquerque and the rio grande and on the other, a view of the peak.

the “super suite” has a bunch of huge LCD televisions. 2 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms. the “main” bedroom has a picturesque view of the mountains and a 47″ LCD TV. the living room has a nice surround sound system and a 60″ LCD TV and a full bar with granite countertops. the other bedroom has a 47″ LCD mounted in the footboard of the bed, which is on a motor so it can be raised/lowered into the footboard or rotated to face the nice leather sofa and chairs. the main bathroom has granite countertops, a 20″ LCD mounted on the wall in a special enclosure and a steam room. the bathroom itself is the size of a normal bedroom.

tomorrow, i get to spend 4 more hours with HR and then i get to retreat to the actual surveillance office. yay.
