the new facebook interface sucks goat dick
i hate the facebook. i only have an account because cadie urged me to have one social networking presence she could use to point me out to people.
i logged in today because i got a friend request from another individual i haven’t spoken to in 6 years and suddenly the site went from its tolerable old interface to the new one. great.
anyway, the new interface is so chock full of unintuitive design, ajax, javascript and ruby on concrete blocks that it literally takes privoxy running on a dual P4 3.0GHz box with 2GB of memory over 50 seconds to sanitize the front page. before i made some adjustments to the configuration, there was so much crap that privoxy blocked the site altogether.
yeah. great.
disappointing
after a bit of an incident involving eset nod32 missing a detection of a trojan, i ended up switching to avira antivir. the memory footprint is actually ~1/3 of nod’s (and nod is one of the best in terms of memory usage) and its scanner is much faster. unfortunately, some aspects of the app aren’t as graceful or polished as nod. there isn’t any real way to disable components of the app such as the web protect virus scanner or email scanner since neither serve any real purpose for me.
also, i’ve given up on using spybot search and destory. it went from an awful spyware scanner to a great one and now the developers seem to have settled on making a “wunderprodukt” that does too much and doesn’t serve its main purpose well enough. in that area, i’ve switched to superantispyware. its scanner takes FOREVER, but its detection engine seems to be more realistic and while it doesn’t have any sort of proactive protection in the free version, it also won’t flood my hosts file with shit.

so, i think i’m gonna do the brakes on my car soon. i need to investigate a weird noise that the front left side of the car makes during hurried stops. it’s a sort of popping sound and it’s kind of disconcerting. also, i’m debating whether or not i want to make a huge fucking mess and change my transmission filter and coolant. meh.
