damn it, comcast
comcast is enhancing services in abq..which is great, because that means better speed or whatever the hell it is that they’re changing. unfortunately, it also means that while they’re swapping stuff out, they have less capacity which means hideous congestion during “peak hours” (i.e. when kids get home from school to when their parents go to bed) unfortunately for me, this means that 1. i can only play PC or PS3 games between the hours of 0100 and like 1500, and most of that time i spend sleeping. and 2. when i’m off from work, my typical game-playing times don’t work out because there’s so much loss/latency on my line that it’s impossible to play.
so, unless i get my game playing in early in the day, (which isn’t ideal because other than phil, the other people i play with aren’t around til the evening.)
what i’ve decided to do is give qwest a shot and see if maybe i can cope with a lack of speed (7 mbit or less vs 8 mbit) if it means my line is more stable and less prone to congestion issues. i’ve never had qwest service. previously, i had earthlink dsl (‘01) covad dsl (03) and speakeasy dsl (03-07) and all were furnished by the clec (covad in all three cases) and latency sucked but reliability was relatively good. hopefully, cutting out the middle-man and going straight with the ILEC will make my life easier. i guess i’ll find out on 4/1/09 when the circuit is scheduled to be activated.
i’ve already been kind of disappointed with the ordering process, as qwest doesn’t offer a way to check order status easily like the other 3 providers i’ve used. whereas all 3 clecs give detailed status including provisioning, hand-offs for stuff, installation @ the co, etc. qwest told me to register on their my account site which isn’t available to me until the install date. i had to speak to three separate reps before i was even able to confirm that they had my order in the system and that it was being processed. so..that kind of sucks. the last rep i spoke to suggested that i call them or use their online chat system tomorrow or monday to get the tracking number for the modem.
productive.
i was pretty productive today. i got up at 0930, changed most of my spark plugs, set up cadie’s mom’s computer, finished changing spark plugs, went to work and got my check (my direct deposit is sort of in limbo at the moment while i change banks), deposited it, went to walmart, washed the truck, realized that i’m stupid for buying a black truck, went to work…and once i hit that last part, my day sort of started to suck because work isn’t the “funnest” place to hang out. yeah. next thing i need to do is re-wash the truck and remember to bring my microfiber towels so i can actually dry it instead of buying those POS “chamois” things for $.75 at the self-serve wash.
also, i’ve been at my “new” job for a year as of 3/17
got it back
got my truck back from carmax today. unfortunately, they seem to have left it outside without any window seals on the driver side rear door, so it’s presently completely full of dust and coated in dirt. i’ll probably take it and rinse it off tomorrow so it doesn’t look AS bad.
i miss my truck
i had to take the truck back to the dealer to get some warranty work done on the rear door window seals and get the rear brakes addressed. they fixed the brakes the day i took it in, but because they wanted to be sure the dealer ordered the correct part, they gave them the original rear window seals so i couldn’t pick the truck up and drive it til they got the parts.
there is no leg room
for the last 4 days, i’ve been driving a 2007 hyundai sonata limited. which has been alright, but it has absolutely no leg room. at any rate, i’m hopeful that chrysler will come through for me and i’ll have my truck back either monday or tuesday.
people fucking suck
came home last night, someone was in my spot. confronted her when she was getting out of her car, telling her that it was reserved parking and that if she leaves her vehicle, it’ll get towed. she told me that she wasn’t moving because there was no signage. so i called, security and let them know and they sent an officer. the officer got out of his car and the lady ran out and moved her car out of the way.
today, i went to the apt office and got my floormats (22 days in transit..thanks usps) and when i was installing them in my truck, i notice a nasty ding on the right pass. fender which went right down to metal. then, noticed that someone tried throwing both a lit cigarette and an empty pack of cigarettes in the bed of my truck, but it ended up landing on the cover, singing it.
why do people have no respect for the possessions of others? it’s fucking disgusting.
