i love incompetent sysadmins

A message from to:
-> xxxxx@inrocks.com

was considered unsolicited bulk e-mail (UBE).

Our internal reference code for your message is 13927-01-42/1K6zyFLMGD5V

The message carried your return address, so it was either a genuine mail
from you, or a sender address was faked and your e-mail address abused
by third party, in which case we apologize for undesired notification.

We do try to minimize backscatter for more prominent cases of UBE and
for infected mail, but for less obvious cases of UBE some balance
between losing genuine mail and sending undesired backscatter is sought,
and there can be some collateral damage on both sides.

First upstream SMTP client IP address: [217.115.161.163] smtp1.integra.fr
According to a 'Received:' trace, the message originated at: [79.144.143.2],

So…yeah. Someone spoofed my address, sending a message from a completely unrelated mail system, which isn’t an MX of my domain(s). The receiving system is concerned about spam and reducing backscatter. So they don’t look at their own scans of the message and determine that it didn’t originate from my system, but they reply anyway telling me it was unsolicited bulk mail. Pretty awesome. They want to reduce backscatter, but they reply to spam messages? Get a fucking clue, morons.

week off

cadie and i have taken a week off. i turned 25 on monday, she turns 25 on saturday. we haven’t really done anything exciting, save going to dinner for her birthday last night with a bunch of her friends. i don’t like social situations, especially when it involves people i don’t know, but i guess it was alright. i felt like a complete and utter ghoul standing around and waiting for her and her friends to finish their ice cream. today’s my day for her to leave me alone and let me do whatever i feel like. of course, this just means playing video games the majority of the day. only 2 days left off after today and i really am feeling like i need more time off. blah.

changes and stuff.

whoops. slacking at updating again.

so.. got rid of comcast, replaced them with qwest, who have been much, much more stable and reliable thus far. i wasn’t terribly happy with the added latency of interleaving on my dsl circuit, but i sent them a message via live chat and a week later, they took interleaving off. went from 32ms to first hop to 6.

can you tell when i swapped cable for DSL?

can you tell when i swapped cable for DSL?

notice how stable it is? yeah. that’s how an internet connection should look.

also, i finally bit the bullet and canceled comcast television service. again, i really have nothing against them. they provide TV and interbutts access relatively reliably, but i needed/wanted a change. also, dish network, with more programming and better hardware and more HD channels will cost me less a month than i was paying for comcast.
