i fail at social networking. also, we’re looking at houses and..that’s exciting.
ended up deactivating my facebook account again. it was making me feel sort of schizophrenic, like i was talking to myself. i guess i’m just not very good at social networking or something, but it kept giving me the distinct impression that i was saying things aloud in a room full of people without any response. people who know me are aware of the fact that i’ve never really been a big fan of social networking at all, the whole logic behind it has always sort of dumbfounded me. initially, i’d been keeping it because, for whatever reason, cadie wanted me to.
anyway, after debating whether i should keep it up or just forgo that type of communication, i decided to delete it. i’m keeping my twitter account because it sort of amuses me and at least i get some sense of interaction (the whole “social” part of social networking) from it.
in other, more significant news, cadie and i have been looking at houses for the last few weeks. it’s something i’d sort of wanted to avoid, mostly because it makes me feel like i’m getting old and also that i’m getting rid of what little “kid stuff” is left in my life and replacing it with more real-life adult responsibility. after looking at a few, we grew really attached to one particular house and ended up making an offer on it. at this point, though, we’re in sort of a waiting game because it’s a short sale and that leaves the burden of approval on the bank who holds the current mortgage. usually, that kind of thing will take 30-60 days, so that gives us some time to look at other things, save some more money, etc. i hate to admit it, but it’s kind of exciting to possibly be getting a place of our own, away from idiot neighbors in such close proximity. i might actually be able to play amplified guitar (sans headphones) for the first time since april of 2007.
dns changes (who cares?) and a trip to nc
david u, a guy i’ve got a lot of respect for, has sold his former dns provider project to dyn, inc. this sort of bums me out because everydns has always been a great free dns provider. i’m not a fan of dyn’s products, and since they’re saying that they bought everydns to eliminate a competitor, i’ll be switching my dns over to another provider.
cadie and i had a great trip to nc. we went out to visit my dad and stepmom and spent 6 days in the raleigh area. we didn’t really do all that much, aside from visiting biltmore, the duke campus and raleigh to buy some music from an awesome local record store, we spent most of the time at my dad’s. on both the flight out to atlanta from albuquerque and back from atlanta to albuquerque, i used a free inflight wifi coupon, which helped to keep me sort of occupied during the 2.5 and 3.5 hour flights. it worked surprisingly well, so i was pretty impressed with it on the whole.
happy new year
