webos development, borderlands, fun

i’ve been spending the last couple of weeks familiarizing myself with palm’s mojo sdk for webos. i’m looking at building an irc app for webos since there aren’t any yet. it’ll take me a bit of work, but the SDK and development environment are pretty intuitive. the application framework makes extensive use of JSON (jscript) and CSS elements.

the broncos have managed to start this season 6-0, which is pretty awesome since they haven’t managed to play terribly well since around 1999. being brought up as a cynical broncos fan means that i’m still extremely skeptical of the possibility of any future winds.

i’ve been looking at playing borderlands, but i’m sort of on the fence about it still. some reviews talk about how great the game is and that it’s fun, challenging and also really great in terms of graphics. other reviews, however, have pointed to it being a repetitive mess that isn’t any fun for more than maybe 20 hours, and that it turns into a grind-fest.

i also recently picked up both infamous for ps3 and arma ii for pc. infamous is incredibly fun. it’s sort of like gta4 with superhero powers. arma ii is what project reality wishes it could be–full military simulation. everything from bullet physics to wind modeling to vegetation trampling, flight dynamics, vehicle behavior, etc are all accurately modeled. it’s sort of buggy, but it’s a lot of fun and looks fucking phenomenal.

windows 7 here i come

just got done installing windows 7 in its various forms on nearly every machine i own. x64 ultimate on my desktop, laptop and htpc, x86 home premium on my little netbook.

so far, so good. i was pretty impressed with how painless the upgrade procedure was. i intended on doing a clean install soon, but if the upgraded versions stay as quick as they are, then i’ll probably leave them alone for awhile. my laptop could use a new, faster disk, so i might replace that in january or february for less than 100 bones. other than that, though, stuff looks great.

spending a boring night at work adding photos to the m0undsnet gallery and tagging/captioning all of them. lots of stupid shit in there now. i added game screenshots because..well..i had nothing else to add. i’ve been slacking with regard to taking photos lately, so i didn’t have anything “real” to add.

i started playing lotro a while back (i don’t remember if i mentioned this before) and i’ve decided i like it enough to keep playing it for awhile. good art direction, good storylines based on the real tolkien IP so they’re true to lore and whatnot as well as an independent developer whose focus is expanding the game and making it not suck vs. that other company and their pile of shit. can you say treadmill? anyway, i opted in to a 6 month sub, which was on special for the summer and was hard to pass up. especially considering the cost is the same as i’d pay for a newly released pc game.

also, my friend mike coerced me into taking advantage of gog.com’s 1 year anniversary buy one get one free sale on interplay titles. i got descent 1 & 2 + freespace 2 for $6 and kingpin and freespace for $6. good stuff.

woot! time off, bitches!

i decided to take 2 days off this week since i don’t have enough time accrued to go with cadie to visit kira in FL.

i plan on:

1. assembling my new desk (should be here tuesday)
2. fixing the annoying fans in my fileserver
3. drinking beer
4. playing video games
(repeat #s 3 and 4 a few times)

it will be awesome. i haven’t had any time off other than my “weekends” since december of ’07.
